4 On Thursday, March 13, 2008, Bear Stearns lost 10 billion dollars, 80% of its available cash, and informed the Federal Reserve that it would have to file for bankruptcy. In an unprecedented move, the Fed offered Bear Stearns a $30 billion loan and orchestrated a deal in which J. P. Morgan would acquire Bear Stearns at the price of $2 per share (this price was later raised to $10 per share).

1 The pyramids on the Giza Plateau were built between 2686 and 2498 BC under the orders of the fourth dynasty of Egyptian Pharaohs.
2 After 343 BC, Egypt was governed by a series of foreign powers for 2,400 years, the last of which was Britain. Egypt regained self-rule in 1936 when Gamal Abdul Nasser came to power.

4 The pyramids are the largest tourist attraction in Egypt. Tourism brings in 5 billion dollars of revenue per year or 10% of the country's GDP.
