Christine Y. Kim


Bio

A Los Angeles native, Christine Y. Kim currently resides in both New York City and Los Angeles. She received a B.A. from Connecticut College in 1993 and an M.A. from New York University in 1998.

Kim arrived at The Studio Museum in Harlem in May of 2000, where she has organized exhibitions such as Flow (2008), Philosophy of Time Travel (2007), Black Belt (2003) and Africaine (2002); co-organized exhibitions such as Frequency (2005) and Freestyle (2001) with Director Thelma Golden; and numerous other exhibitions and projects such as Nadine Robinson: alles grau (2006), Meschac Gaba: Tresses (2005) and Edgar Arceneaux: Drawings of Removal (2002). Additionally, as manager of the Artist-in-Residence Program, she has worked with emerging artists such as Leslie Hewitt (2008), Wardell Milan (2007), Rashawn Griffin (2006), Michael Queenland and William Cordova (2005), Dave McKenzie and Wangechi Mutu (2004), Mickalene Thomas (2003), Kehinde Wiley (2002) and Julie Mehretu (2001) among others, as well as curating the annual A-I-R exhibitions.

Kim has guest-curated off-site exhibitions and projects such as the Peter Norton residence, New York (2005-06); Purloined (2001) at Artists Space, New York, and The Light Show at Gale Gates et al. in Brooklyn. She has also published writings and lectured extensively at museums, universities and art organizations in the U.S. and abroad. Prior to her post at the Studio Museum, she worked at the Whitney Museum of American art and Gagosian Gallery. Kim was a member of the National Summer Curatorsí Conference Steering Committee (2002-05), a participant of the Whitney Biennial Zeitgeist panel (2004), a visiting professor at the Center for Curatorial Studies graduate program at Bard College (2002), and a recipient of the Fund for Arts Research grant from the American Center Foundation (2002) among other awards and grants.
